This recipe is a spin off of the Chinese Baked Tofu Roll. I used the same ingredients (minus the green onion pancake) and made a stir-fried dish. If you like cilantro as much as we do, you will like this one. The sweet-salty-spicy sauce is perfect with baked tofu.

Chinese Stir-Fried Baked Tofu with Cilantro

(4 Servings)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 package (about 11 oz) Chinese baked tofu, thinly sliced
2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
1 teaspoon “mala” spicy sauce, or any spicy chili sauce (optional)
1/2 cup chopped cilantro, both leaves and stem
1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

Add oil to wok with medium heat. When oil is hot, add sliced baked tofu. Cook until baked tofu is heated through, about 3 minutes.

Add hoisin sauce, soy sauce and spicy chili sauce if using. Stir fry until baked tofu is evenly coated with sauce, about 1 minute.

Add cilantro and red chili pepper if using. Stir fry for about 1 minute.

Done! So simple and easy. It only takes about 5 minutes to cook! Serve with rice. Or you can wrap it with tortilla to make a burrito. Enjoy!

  1. Ooh this sounds and looks awesome. Please let us know if there is a recipe/directions on baking firm tofu. I haven’t seen it in South Africa (where I am).

    1. I think you would like baked tofu. It isn’t squishy like regular tofu. Maybe try a smoked tofu too. They are so tasty and sort of chewy. It hardly feels like tofu anymore.

    2. Lacey’s description is right on. Baked tofu’s texture is a lot firmer than tofu. It’s pretty much compressed tofu, stewed (with soy sauce and spices, etc), then baked. You should give it a try.
